DIFF2017 Special Honorees

THE DALLAS FILM SOCIETY HONORS

Presented by the Arthur E. Benjamin Foundation
Friday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m.

We present the Festival’s awards during an evening celebration with a red carpet, cocktail reception on the pool deck, and an elegant dinner at The Highland Dallas.


 

2017 DIFF DALLAS STAR AWARD

The Dallas Star Award honors individuals who have made important contributions to shaping the face of modern cinema and the advancement of the art of film.

BILL PAXTON (POSTHUMOUSLY)
Bill PaxtonBill Paxton was an award-winning actor and filmmaker from Texas. In 1992, he landed his first leading role in ONE FALSE MOVE. Paxton went on to star in several hit films including ALIENS (1985), APOLLO 13 (1995), TWISTER (1996) and TITANIC (1997), among others. In 2001, he directed the crime thriller FRAILTY.

Paxton is also well known for his role as Bill Henrickson in the popular HBO series Big Love (2006-2011).

Bill Paxton’s family will accept his Dallas Star Award on Friday, April 7 at DFS Honors.

2017 L.M. KIT CARSON MAVERICK AWARD

The Maverick Award honors noted auteurs and groundbreaking filmmakers whose unique cinematic voices challenge our notions of mainstream cinema.

DAVID GORDON GREEN
David Gordon Green’s debut feature, GEORGE WASHINGTON (2000) won the Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, and his second feature, ALL THE REAL GIRLS (2003), received a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. More recent films include JOE (2014) and MANGLEHORN (2015), which screened at the 2014 and 2015 Dallas International Film Festivals, respectively.

A Conversation with David Gordon Green will be held at the SMU Meadows Museum on Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m. followed that evening by a screening of PINEAPPLE EXPRESS at the Texas Theatre at 7 p.m.

David Gordon Green will accept his L.M. Kit Carson Maverick Award on Friday, April 7 at DFS Honors.

2017 DIFF SHINING STAR AWARD

Zoey DeutchThe Shining Star Award honors the work and talent of actors, directors, and designers that strike us as being prepared to accept the mantle of leading the next generation of filmmakers.

ZOEY DEUTCH
A vibrant, diversely talented, award-winning actress, Zoey Deutch is steadily building on her body of work with dynamic roles alongside notable actors and filmmakers. Deutch is well known for her roles in VAMPIRE ACADEMY (2014), EVERYBODY WANTS SOME (2016) and WHY HIM? (2016) Most recently, she starred in REBEL IN THE RYE and BEFORE I FALL, both of which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

A Conversation with Zoey Deutch will be held at the Angelika Film Center on Saturday, April 8 at 12:30 p.m. following the screening of one of her films.

Zoey Deutch will accept her Shining Star Award on Friday, April 7 at DFS Honors.

Zoey Deutch ZOEY DEUTCH
